A Natural State of Mind: No heat hair Challenge

Hello pretties!! Soooo I've been thinking of doing a NO HEAT hair challenge for a while now, but I always fail miserably as soon as I start them! However I think this time will be different!!! I am super excited because for the next four months I will be doing a NO HEAT CHALLENGE. This means no blow dryer, no flat iron, and I will also have a simple regimen while doing this challenge. I will not do a length check until my birthday April 12th, which is when I will flat iron my hair! I CHALLENGE YOU ALL TO DO THIS CHALLENGE WITH ME ALSO! :)

My Simple wash regimen:
Friday: Wash (shampoo + conditioner)/ Deep condition day
Tuesday: Co-wash ( conditioner)

Protective style as much as possible!
I plan on getting box braids soon :)

To start off my challenge:
Tonight I decided to do a braid- out for the first time in about a year! I will show the results tomorrow :)

Update: Sorry this took so long that braidout was definitely a fail and turned into an afro ( it wasn't dry :(

PS: I lost my ssc, so please pray that I find it! I need another job :)

Baby Hair: How to get your baby hairs on fleek/edges laid to the gawds

Do you ever want your baby hair to be on fleek? Do you not know how to lay them edges down hunty? Well this is the post for you!
BABY HAIR 101

Materials needed:
Edge control, gel, conditioner- anything that you feel will help lay your hair the most
Toothbrush/ Regular Brush-Your choice also I like using a toothbrush because its more concentrated
Scarf- silk preferably

Step 1
Use either your toothbrush or regular brush and smooth hair down in the style of your choosing
Step 2
Brush your baby hairs forward ( sidenote if you do not have natural baby hairs, just brush the very front of your hair forward so you have something to work with), NOT EXTREMELY LONG PIECES THOUGH

Step 3
Depending on the type of baby hair you want (Swirl, curl, or simply swept into your edges), dip your toothbrush/brush in the product of your choice and use your index finger of the opposite hand holding the toothbrush to hold down the part closes to the hairline and simply swoop, swirl, curve, or brush into your preferred baby hair pattern
Step 4 (optional)
Place a scarf on the hair line, careful not to move your masterpiece, for five minutes and voil-a!

Sidenote: I love doing my baby hairs, I feel like they frame your face and feel naked without them! #teambabyhair

"Love Pink" Joggers: Last "Victoria's Secret Pink" item and I have also fallen for these pants, they are everything and MORE the fit is nice the color is nice, I give them a 5/5!

Blue Hollister Sweater: Even though it does not keep me warm because of the holes, I adore this sweater and it is purrfect for fall! It is cropped also!

Cheetah print loafers: I bought them from target and I am in lust, they go with EVERYTHING, and even if they don't I still put them with stuff! They were cheap and are very comfortable. Thanks Target yall did your thing!

Long Time no Post, eh?

Hellooooo ladies and gents,

Soooooo todays post will be a quick over-cap of the past 2 months and within the next few days will be an official blog post! So as you may or may not know I am taking 18 hours this semester and it's kicking my butt, but I will persevere! The main reason why I have been absent is because I have been extremely busy this semester. Instead of wallowing in my room like the past 3 years, I am actually joining more organizations and getting more involved on campus, which I HIGHLY recommend.
Just in case you were wondering, I am still working at the prison, and I actually do not hate my job, I kind of really like it :) I have bought wayyy more clothes since I last posted and would be happy to share! I am planning on doing some type of school outfits post but that is still in the works. I still need a lot of work on my "saving money plan," but I will get there! If there are some posts you would like to see or an updated post of any of my old ones, just comment below!

                                                                          Xoxo,

July update + August posts

Miss me miss me now you have to kiss me!

Hey guys so today I am just doing a simple update post on the things that have been going on in July.

School: The second summer session is so far so good and it will be over in T minus 2 days, and then I will have a whole month to myself, before fall classes begin!

Work: Boy oh boy, I don't think I have mentioned to you guys that I am a correctional officer at a prison, but that alone is stressful and a little dangerous. Besides my job duties we work 6 days on and 3 days off, and when I get home, all I want to do is pass out! I am enjoying my job though, it just drains all of the energy from my body

Money: NEXT!

Life: Just know that I am in a boys stuck stage, and I think I might be asexual (Lol jk). Moving on though I have actually been inspired by Draya Michelle of basketball wives (wait I know what your thinking), she actually came up with a brilliant idea of networking with other business women, by having a little get together/ mixer. I though this was smart because you can meet other business minded women and share your secrets and she even said she got  a variety of businesses not just hair and clothing boutiques. Even though I do not own a business right now I do want to in the future and I think this was a good way to network!

So that is all of the updates for now. And stay tuned for August because I will be posting a lot more than once a month!

Love all of my 10 followers, lol BESOS!

June Update!

Hello beautiful people! Todays post will just be an update of my life. Some things have happened since I last posted and I just wanted to share them with you.

New Job: So I got a job as a correctional officer, and so far I like it! It's a little scary dealing with convicts but i'm slowly but surely learning how to deal with them. If you guys want an in depth post about my job or a short series just tell me in the comments below!

Shop til ya drop: So after receiving my first check from my new job, I went a little cray and did some shopping I will show you guys a haul in the near future of everything I bought!!

Citation: This past Friday, I got my first ticket for my registration being out of date, and lemme tell ya, the cop was an asshole! I cried and was upset at first but then I womaned (I don't think this is a word) up and realized even though he was rude as hell he was doing his job and I was wrong. I'm still mad though, lol.

New Hair: So recently I have been wanting to go shorter with my hair, and or dye it red. I just recently dyed it black but as we all know I get tired of my hair real quick and want to do something different. I was thinking about cutting my hair into a bob but decided against it and just getting a weave, I will post pictures of what I decide to do!

School: I don't even want to talk about it

Room Renovations: My clothing Rack!

Hello everybody! So sorry once again for my absence, but today I am so excited for this post! Yesterday I went into Wal-Mart to get a clothing rack for my room, I spent about $10 and found THE PERFECT one. I love the height, stability, and the color ( although I might paint it a soft pink later on.) I have been trying to renovate my room, which explains the title. I am doing a series of room renovations of major and minor things I will be doing to jazz up my room, and this is the first in the series! Below is a virtual tour and some still pictures I hope you guys enjoy and get inspired!

My quick go to Summer Hair Style! (No heat)

I call this "BUNZ"

Things needed to create this hairstyle:

* Brush (toothbrush optional)- Make bun smooth/ lay down edges

* Moisturizer- so hair will be moisturized throughout the day

* Hair Tie x2

* Bobby pins- Secure the bun/ Random hair

*Gel- Slick down edges/ baby hair

* Bandana/ Scarf (optional)- Lay down edges further

Step 1: Smooth hair into a ponytail on top of your head. (Moisturizer, Brush, Gel, Hair tie)

Step 2: "The Coolio" Take 1-2inch sections and either plait(braid) or twist hair. ( I do about 3-4 braids or twists)

Step 3: Just simply wrap your twists around eachother and bobby pin or tie with a hair tie. This will leave you with a nice twisted/ braided bun. You can also lay down your baby hair!

Tips and Tricks:
  •  I like to do 3-4 plaits because my hair is not extremely long, and it adds more volume
  • If you want more height layer the braids/twists on top of eachother and pin
  • This is a great protective style and it lasts ALL day, I NEVER have to check my hair :)
  • Great pool style!
  • Excuse my poses :)

April Faves: Best Month EVER

April is always the best month out of the whole year... Why? Because it's my birfffdayyy month, this year I turned 21, and turnt up a little bit, but anyways here are all of the things I have been LOVING for April!

Is the picture a little crooked, or nah? (excuse the carpet)

Overall short set: YASSSSS my absolute favorite piece I have bought this month! Do you guys want a lookbook with overalls? (Rue 21 $30 , I know a little pricey for me, but they were kind of a birthday gift to myself)

New York Jersey: This easy breezy shirt was so easy to pair with a lot of different things in my closet and I wore the heck out of this piece this month. BTW: I loved wearing it with silver jewelry instead of gold :) ($10-15 Random store in California)

Faux Floral Vans/Keds: I got these shoes for $16 from Rue 21! I originally wanted to get some floral vans but decided to go with these instead because they were friendly to my budget. I have to say I am in love and they were easy to style!

Fabulous Tan Bag: This along with my black Steve Madden bag (not pictured) were my birthday gifts from my friends. I had kind of been hinting that I wanted a bag for my birthday and these were perfection! I Love big bags. (No idea of the price they were gifts!)

Smell Good Air Freshener: You know when you do number 2 and that stuff you spray right after, well I have found a magical scent that smells amazing. BUT WAIT, the best part is that it was only 1$ from the Dollar Tree. YOUR WELCOME. (The name is Air Freshener scent is Waterfall Breeze brand is the Home Store. Its in a bluish greenish can)

Candle: Now I am in no way shape or form a candle person, but I had to pick this candle from the DOLLAR STORE, which means it was a dollar, and the smell is just everything. I love vanilla and I think that its comparable to Bath and Body works Vanilla Sugar, maybe better? ( The name is luminescence vanilla scented jar candle!) The only downside is the wick goes fast!

Elf Eyebrow Kit in Dark (educated guess): I have been filling in my eyebrows since freshmen year of college and this product hurrr is just great I like to use a darker pencil to outline then fill in with this and it works like a charm! (Ross $5 it came in a set)

UPdate: Job, Hair color, School

It's gonna be may!

Hellloooooooo everybody, sooooo FINALS is over, #finally! I just wanted to update you guys on a few things going on in my life. Expect to see more posts consistently, because school is out (even though i'm taking summer classes, and working full time!

School: So I ended up making a 3.46 this semester, which was not my goal but I am improving. I will get that 4.0 before I graduate!! Even though I did not achieve my goal I am still happy with my grades and I am officially a JUNIOR in college! yuhhhh turnuhhh

Job: Unfortunate circumstances forced me to quit my job  earlier than I would've liked, however I had already had an even better job lined up for the summer (Ain't GOD good)! (Today was my first day :) )

Money: Sigh... I will not get in my feelings about this, but just know that, I have not been saving my money :(, but I have a plan to get back on track'

Hair: So with my new job they are making me dye my hair back to a natural color all over (my sides are died blonde), and I am a little depressed about this. But moving on , I will be doing a heat free au natural summer, you guys should join me! And I may do progression pics :)

RIP to my lip, bellybutton, second hole, and cartilage  piercings

Not matching is okay!

I remember back in the day (middle school) when my whole outfit HAD TO match. If I had on a green shirt, my shoes, belt, and purse ALL had to be green and not just any green but the SAME EXACT color as my shirt. Fast forward to where we are now, it is okay not to match (and even if it wasn't I would still do it) , and I encourage you guys not to match! Go crazy with different patterns and colors mix-n-match all you like! If you want to wear red, green, purple and blue together, DO IT. Your style is all about you, so go crazy with different colors and patterns!

Budgeting my Paycheck

Hey guys, so I told you in my last post that I would be talking about budgeting, well here it is. So recently I have decided to budget my money, because I have noticed I am a spend till the last drop type of girl, and I no longer want to do that. Plus I always end up spending my money on stupid stuff, instead of  paying my bills! So here is my plan to budget my money!

** with every check I will set aside my tithing and save $50
**depending on how much my check is, I will put 50-100$ on my bills
** I will also set aside $30 for gas and $30 for groceries
Whatever is left I will spend wisely, but I won't bring it with me to campus because I always ending up buying useless stuff

With each check I get I write down how it will be spent, for example if my check was $300 (this is just an example) I will write down 300, then immediately take $30 out for tithing and $50 out for savings, then $60 for groceries and gas. That should leave me with $160. Next I will put $100 towards any bill I need to pay (rent, school, car) and keep the rest in my pocket. Whatever I don't spend will be added to the $50 I saved and I will start this process over for my next check!

~I really recommend writing it down on a piece of paper, so you can physically see it.
~Another tip is once you receive your check do what you Need to do with the money ASAP, if find myself spending on wants first and then realizing I have little or no money for the things I actually need

Classy in College

Hello everyone again, so I've been wanting to do a college themed post and I think this was perfect!
These are just some tips on how to stay "Classy in College"

1.Professionalism. To me this is the most important thing, I could go on and on about this subject, but I will try to keep it short and sweet. In college there are going to be many events that require you to dress BUISNESS PROFESSIONAL. Business professional means neutral colors, work heels/flats, and a suit, whether it be a skirt suit or pants set. If you show up to an event and you are in stripper heels, low cut V-necks, and short skirts, you will not only be judged, but you will most likely be turned away from the event. Please be mindful that just because you have on black heels and they don't have any type of pattern or studs, or glitter, but they are 6 inches, you should not be wearing them to a professional event.
*Try to look for a shoe with a low heel and a neutral color (black or nude) for any type of professional event.
       * If you are going to wear a skirt make sure that it is no shorter than  3 inches above the knee, and that it does not have a big slit in the back! Try to get a skirt that is at least to the knee, and that is not super tight
       * Blazers are a good way to go if you are unsure if you are wearing the right top, but don't go crazy with the colors. A nice navy, grey or black coat with a subtle pinstripe or just plain would be fine.
       * If you don't have a suit, get separates, you can find them anywhere! A nice white button down tucked in to IRONED slacks would be a good way to go. Also I really recommend getting a blazer to go over, and if you are a little money funny like everyone is in college, try the thrift store, they ALWAYS have blazers!

2. Express yourself, but don't get crazy College is all about finding yourself and experimenting and meeting new people, blah blah blah. However that doesn't mean go crazy and do stuff you know your parents would be frowning at you for doing. Go to parties, hang out with friends, have boyfriends and girlfriends, do you boo. BUT don't get sloppy drunk (I really don't recommend that EVER), don't air your dirty laundry for everybody to hear, and be careful who you trust.

3. Classy vs. Trashy  Last but certainly not least , even though for the most part there isn't a dress code in college try to dress appropriately. Now I am in no way saying you have to wear a cardigan and a turtleneck with some loose fitting jeans and boots to class everyday but if you do decide to wear that crop top one day or skirt that is a little too short try covering up yourself in other areas. Another rule of thumb if you wore it to a party/the club , then its probably not appropriate for school.

****Always remember you are in college for your education , not your fashion sense, so make sure that it is top priority.****

Changes

Hello everybody, so recently I was reflecting on my blog and thinking of ways to improve it. I really wanted a new background color because it was getting old, so I changed it to a maroon color. Do you guys like it, or should it be brighter? Continuing with changes there will be more posting, my whole point of started this blog was to give inspire others, while giving you guys a dose of my daily life, so I will continue to do that but I want to do it in a more creative way. Instead of posting outfits that I took from the internet I will be taking pictures of what I wear and posting them, amongst other things. I'm really excited to basically get a fresh start on my blog and I hope you guys enjoy the changes.

Spring Semester: Tips

Spring semester  is right around the corner for me and a lot of you guys, and I am a little excited about it! I get excited for the first day of classes,  and then for the rest of the it i'm like blah. So I just wanted to give you guys some of my tips to start of fresh for this semester!

1.Wear something you feel comfortable in!
Everyone at school:

 Me:

2.Even if the professor is going over the whole syllabus, pay attention! I know, I know, we are in college now and we don't need the syllabus being read to us word for word, but you never know you may have a question and you might need the professor to clarify something. Don't get me wrong, I be complaining too!

 3. Wake up early or give yourself enough time to get ready, and or find where your classes are at if you haven't already done so. I love turning on some music to wake me up, here are three of my faves!

Jhene aiko- Bed peace
When I am in a soothing mood

M.E. - Dance like a stripper
Don't judge me, lol! I had to add a little more upbeat/ratchet song and I just love the beat! This song definitely wakes me up in the morning!!!! P.S. I am not telling anyone to go to the club and dance like a stripper!
Chris brown- 2012
When I'm in a "I want to listen to my man" mood, which is pretty much everyday. lol

So those were all of the tips I could think of for right now, lol I am tired, but I hope you guys enjoyed! And if you have any tips that you want to say just drop them in the comment box!!!!

Ciao,
Jessica

Who am I

So it seems that it has been centuries since I posted, but I am here today to give you guys a little more personal blog of what I am feeling....
I have noticed I have started taking more time into picking out outfits for school, and it's kind of becoming an obsession. I have also tried to put pieces together based on what I have seen on instagram, tumblr and YouTube, and don't get me wrong its great to get inspiration from places, but I have been letting it overcome me to where I don't really have an identity anymore. I've been trying to look like all of these pretty girls I see and dress just like them and do my makeup and hair just like there's and with doing all of that I have lost myself.
So with that being said I am going to stay away from inspiration for a minute and just be me, without trying to copy the next girl. I need to find myself again and figure out what I like to wear, and how I like to do my hair and makeup and not base it on anyone's opinion of me or just anyone in general, but my own.
This blog is sort of an outlet for me to express how i'm feeling  and to help others that are feeling the same way, and I hope you guys don't mind me getting a little personal. But I know there is at least one person that is struggling trying to find themselves and I just want to tell you that you are not alone! I don't really have some uplifting advice or some meaningful quote to go with this because I am struggling with this myself, but I will tell you that I am just going to step back from the media and any inspiration and do my own thing.

New Year, New Me, yeah yeah

Hey guys so continuing with the new year theme, I've been wanting to do some changes in my life that aren't too drastic, but will give me a fresh start for the new year, and I have compiled a short list of some of the things I want to do!

1. Dye my hair a blonde that compliments my skin tone!
My skin tone is darker than all three, but I think any of these would be a good match

2. Get organized for school: Planner, pencil pouch, binder
Tip: makeup bags depending on the length can also be used as pencil pouches!

3. Decorate my room

2014

Hey guys and happy new year!!!! We made it! Sorry I've been gone, its been a lot going on in my life including not having internet to tell you guys about what's going on. Today is the start of the new year and I hope you guys are enjoying yours more than I am (I am in pain!). Are you guys setting goals for yourselves or are you just going to go with the flow this year? I am setting minor goals for myself, and continuing on my goals from the beginning of last semester, since a lot of them were not accomplished! Hope you guys have a wonderful rest of the day!
